I’ve encountered this somewhat and can attest that it is a bit disheartening when you see a surge of new traffic and then the number of visitors and/or subscribers levels right back out after a day or so. It is sort of understandable, but still a disappointment.
And this is why I think you have to focus on building a solid base of readers or subscribers than fixate on traffic-boosting efforts. “Traffic” is fleeting…
So, sure, I do watch my stats (you can easily waste hours pouring over the incredible Google Analytics data ‘cuz the info is so interesting) but I’m more interested in finding ways to increase the number of comments posted by my readers and the number of feed subscribers than I am in boosting raw traffic.
