You've just hit it right on the head there

Joomla! is a highly modular script that allows extremely rapid site development, and also extremely easy and rapid expansion due to adding new features is as simpleas installing a new module or component.

It's also extremely flexible, and easy to customise yourself.

I think any web design program that is used extensively tends to have a lot of support on the back end from the company itself and fellow designers. I think that is why Joomla and Wordpress are so popular. And you can't discount the enormous collection of plugins available for each.

I agree, however Magento is purely an eCommerce package.

With the likes of Joomla! I know the majority of people that use it enjoy the massive following that is has earned so they know that they can practically always find a component or module or even template that they can put together within a few hours to have a completely finished, ready to go site.

Some people shun it however and look at it as the "easy way out" as they haven't really had to "work" to get their site packaged the way that others who hand code every aspect fo their sites to achieve the same end result.

I guess it's really down to what level of development time and level of involvement with the coding aspect that you really want to do.

Joomla has a pretty face. Many heads turn when they see Joomla strutting its stuff. After a brief infatuation, the smart ones find that Joomla's elevator doesn't go all the way up, and so move on to a more serious development relationship.

I like creating Joomla sites for people. What I don't like is handing them the keys when I am finished and watching them drive it off a cliff.
