Since you're going for simple, the site looks pretty good. But I agree that a catchy logo at the top would improve things a lot. You have a good amount of content on your site, but if I was a random guest I doubt I would've even looked that far - I had no idea what you site was about. Including a table cell on your main page that tells what your site is for and what people can do on it wouldn't hurt.
The ability to change between light and dark colors is a perfect touch for your site and works great. Nice work
