For me the choice of timing was easy. I just started my first forum and chose phpBB3 RC1. I wanted to be cutting edge and its free. I never go with anything that says "unstable" like RC2 at the time. It is challenging, though, so many settings.

Yeah, it's a change from the 2 series. Back then you needed many hacks, now a lot of features are pre-installed.

We were hacked so we started fresh into phpBB 3.0, I've created a custom template, built custom pages off it, and have a portal running that I've adjusted to my liking.

yeah currently we are running rc2 on our site, ive modded the subsilver2 templale to suit my needs and ive added a few extra things off it like a support page annd a wiki

The COnversion was perfect, converted everything for me. The preinstalled theme (prosilver) was pretty decent, I mean, almost every phpBB3 site used prosilver..

I think it is safe now to upgrade. Not sure tho. I know my friend is using it publicly and have not gotten any problemes till now.

By the way, they released RC5 on the 24th August, so you can now download that if you didn't know.
