Default How to offer your visitors GOOD CONTENT

The secret to having a visited site wiht a good relationship with search engines is content. Good content if possible. Try to update the site from time to time, to have articles and information, so that the search engines could find words and your visitors what they came for.

For a site that offers information and articles these have to be easily read, seen and understood by people who look for them.

Easy access: don't make your articles downloadable pages or PDFs. I don't bother download an entire file just for your 3 paragraphs. Do you have something to tell me? Use the plain old site page to do this. Just write that article as any content in a site and let me read it.

Don't give me bits or information, don't make me download it, install Acrobat Reader (not all people have it installed), run the Anti Virus software (you can never trust anything on the Internet) and so on. You'll lose a lot of interested people if you do this.

Content relation with the site: in other words don't debate the endangered species in a dating site. Focus on your domain and try to offer relevant information.

Correct information: needless to say it's better to spellcheck you content and try to offer accurate information. Which leads us to "know what you are talking about". If you are not that sure about something, just use good ole Google or whatever search engine you have in mind and so your homework. There's nothing worse than pretending to know what you are saying and making blatant mistakes.

Free access: don't make me pay just to read your articles. If you want to make money from your articles, why not submit them to New York Times? If you want to attract people in your article - tutorials site, make sure they can find what you are advertising to offer. Try to think about all the sites that have the same topics as you and they offer free resources (even this site). You can still earn some money .. why not place some ads?

Original content: here we go. Don't copy other articles and place them as your own. It's a matter of seconds to run a query on some paragraphs and be caught red handed. If you find a great article made by someone else and you love it so much, why not ask the author to give you permission to publish it? It happened to me. I got a nice article and I just knew I couldn't have said it better. Instead of ripping the content, I just contacted the author, gave him the link to this site so that he could know what's all about and kindly asked for permission to republish.

He agreed. The article has appeared here, with full credits to the author's work and site. I'm glad I have another good article here and he's been rewarded with the credits he deserved.

The idea is to try to have less articles republished and more personal contributions. An article site must have an "attitude". This site reflects my ideas and opinions. I made it clear from the first time and you can expect to read something interesting, but from my point of view. I'm willing to have other people contribute articles and tutorials, but the main "groove" is easy to distinguish.

Speak English: or whatever language you are using. It's important to avoid the mIRC style and try to write careful. But please don't use "rocket science" language. I'm not willing to read articles that require the Webster or Oxford dictionary for every word. I don't want to read careless style phrases, but they should still be understood by people with a medium education.

So far these are the guidelines for a good content. I will add more as time goes by and I get more ideas. You could suggest your own additions by using the quick reply function in the forums.

Interesting article. However, related to #1 (easy access), perhaps it would be better to have both easy access (the info displayed on the page) and a .pdf version available for download somewhere around for people who want to study the piece of information without the use of internet. There have been times when I saved or bookmarked an interesting page and couldn't access when I needed because the internet connection was down. A local drive copy would have been very useful...
