I was just wondering what legal ways do you use to attract your clients. Of course, we all know the illegal ones like e-mail spam, overselling and all sort of scamming tricks, but let's not talk about those...
I've noticed several web design firms nowadays offering money back guarantees, discounts for constant customers, bonuses (like free domains on their expenses), prize competitions etc. . What are your methods of promoting your company and "taking the customer's eye"...?

Advertising is probably the hardest part of running a business. Dealing with clients is fairly simple as (at least in my case) I apply the "how would i expect to be treated if i was the client" theory to how i operate.
As for "offline" methods of advertising what does that leave us? well that can solely depend on the market that you wish to advertise in. General market advertising is usually classed as a write off as the larger more established companies already have a hugely credible reputation and in most cases it's a pointless exercise trying to take them on directly. As i said in MOST cases. You can try to gain a small level of market share by coming up with a truly original and highly appealing piece of advertising that will allow you to create a fantastic amount of brand recognition, which in turn will lead to more sales. However, for the most part, discovering a niche market and working on that area is usually the most beneficial. For example, the most profitable niche market you can get is your local area. Start there and create a good name for yourslf and you can then start expanding your advertising to a slightly broader area, and so on from there. As for offline media, these include advertising on Television, Radio, Poster Banner boards, the newspapers, or even several others that i haven't touched upon, but if you combine these methods alongside your online advertising (where your budget permits, of course) then they can be fairly good at generating extra slaes leads, or simply promoting awareness of the site that you're running. Obviously, each area is different, so some methods will be more effective than others, but probably the easiest thing to do is to put yourself in the potential clients shoes and think "how would i find that?" but obviously without all the knowledge that you've learned. Hope this helps

I agree with Ecalpha in we should treat our clients in such a way which we like for ourselves being a customer.
