Host that specializes in forums?

Just another topic I just discussed in another forum and thought we could debate this too.

Do you need a host that specializes in forums? IS there such a thing? Can you do with a normal host?

I've never seen a host that specializes in forums other than free forum hosts.

But I have content on my site so forum only hosts or something along the lines would be good for support but not ideal for me.

I've seen a free host FOR forums. But apart from that, no. However it is an idea.

I never used such a host and I don't know what would make me benefit more from this than from a normal one. All I need is access to FTP and phpmyadmin .. I do my own stuff from there

Other than a free forum host, I don't see the point really. Like you said, anyone with access to FTP and phpMyAdmin can go from there quite easy. For me, it's one of those two, I wouldn't want to pay for an account that only hosts my forum (without the ability to host a site and such as well).
