How to ad Google Analytics code in a phpBB forum

I just answered to this question at another forum I post at and thought it's a good time to start a small thread about this here too.

So ... my hint.

You get a nice code from Google Analytics and that must appear in all your forum pages. In order to do this you have to either put it in the header template or the footer template since the 2 controll ALL the paages.

Here we go.

Start your FTP client and go to your site. In the forums directory try to locate templates. If you're using the default skin, then open subSilver, if not, the template you use. Locate: overall_header.tpl or overall_footer.tpl

I have personally chosen overall_footer.tpl

Open it in your editor and go at the end. Plug in the code you've got from Analytics and UPLOAD the modified script.

ALWAYS BACK UP THE ORIGINAL FILE before making any changes. This goes for any modifications you make. Failing to do this might cause in a tpl files's case just some weird alignments or stuff, but for php pages you might get parse errors and they're really ugly

I`ve not heard of that.

I use it on some of my sites and the amount of information that`s shown is amazing.
